SM Specialized

Privacy notice

This notice describes what SM Secure collects when you contact us through this website, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to describe what the site actually does.

Revised 22 September 2026.

Who is responsible

The responsible party, as the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) uses that term, is SM Specialized Security Management, Unit A, Victory Park, Capricorn Business Park, Muizenberg, Cape Town, 7945. You can reach us by email at info@smsecure.co.za or on +27 (0)76 089 5264.

What we collect, and why

Only what the enquiry form asks for. The one thing collected in the background is a count of page views, described under “How we count visits” below — it asks you for nothing and identifies no one. Nothing on this list is optional to us in a way it is not made clear to you.

Every field on the enquiry form, generated from the same definition the form itself renders.
What we askWhy we askRequired
Your nameSo we know who we are speaking to when we reply.Yes
Phone numberSo we can call you back. For most enquiries a phone call is the fastest route.Yes
Email addressSo we can reply in writing and send anything you ask for.Yes
What do you need?So the enquiry reaches the right person without a qualifying call first. No
Tell us what you needThe detail of your enquiry. Please do not include sensitive personal information here.Yes

The form also carries one hidden field that a person never sees and never fills in, and it notes how many seconds passed before the form was submitted. Anything under 3 seconds is treated as automated. Both exist only to reject spam. Neither is stored and neither tells us anything about you.

Where your enquiry goes

Nowhere you have not sent it. At the date of this revision no delivery service has been provisioned for the form, so it will not claim to have sent anything. What it does instead is check what you have typed and compose it into a message that you send yourself, by email, by phone, or by messaging app. Your enquiry therefore reaches our inbox and no one else's.

When a delivery service is provisioned, this notice will be revised to name it before the change goes live, and the revision date above will change with it.

How we count visits

We count how many people read these pages and which pages they read. We do it with a small script served from gillescolruyt.com, the domain of the developer who built and maintains this website for us, rather than by handing the job to an advertising company. He processes the counts on our instruction and for no other purpose, and we are the only firm they are reported to. Nothing about the count is sold, shared or used to advertise to you.

  • It sets no cookies. It stores a random identifier in your browser's local storage instead. That identifier is a string of characters with no name, no email address and nothing else attached to it, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.
  • Your IP address is not stored. It reaches our server the way it reaches every server on the internet, because that is how a request arrives, and it is not written down.
  • The result comes to us, and stops there. The counts are gathered for us by the developer who maintains this site, who holds them on our behalf and uses them for nothing else. They are not sold, not rented, not shared with an advertising network and not combined with data from anywhere else.
  • It does not try to work out who you are. There is no profile, no cross-site tracking and no attempt to match a visit to a person or to an enquiry you later send us.

This is the one thing on the site that watches anything, and it watches pages rather than people. If you would rather not be counted at all, a browser set to block scripts, or any of the common content blockers, stops it, and the site works exactly the same without it.

What this website does not do

  • No cookies. The site sets none, for any purpose, so there is no consent banner to dismiss.
  • No third-party analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no tag manager and no advertising pixel. The only measurement on the site is our own page count, described above, and it is not handed to an analytics or advertising business.
  • No advertising or tracking company's scripts. The only script loaded from outside this domain is the visitor count described above, served from gillescolruyt.com — the developer who builds and maintains this site for us, and not an analytics or advertising business. The typeface is served from this domain, so rendering this page still sends no request to a font provider.
  • No profiling, no advertising, no sale of anything. We do not build a profile of you and we do not share, sell or rent your details.

The site does link out, to Google Maps for our address and to our Facebook and Instagram pages. Those are ordinary links: nothing is requested from them until you choose to follow one, and once you do, that company's own privacy terms apply rather than ours.

Like every website, ours is served by a hosting provider that keeps short-lived technical logs of requests in order to deliver pages and defend against attack. We do not use those logs to identify visitors.

How long we keep it

We have not yet published a fixed retention period for enquiry correspondence. Contact us at info@smsecure.co.za to request this information.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, or to delete it. You may object to our processing it, and you may withdraw consent you have given. Ask by email at info@smsecure.co.za. We do not charge for this.

If you are not satisfied with how we answer, you are entitled to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, the statutory body that supervises POPIA.

Information officer

We have not published the name of our designated information officer on this page. Contact us at info@smsecure.co.za to request this information.

Changes to this notice

This notice describes the site as it is built. If the enquiry form changes, or a delivery service or any measurement tool is added, the notice is revised in the same release rather than afterwards. The revision date at the top is the only version marker we keep.
